Immigrants

People have come to New Brunswick for many reasons. The original inhabitants must have found that the bounty of the land and sea offered a sustainable way of life. Early European explorers may not have stayed, but they made immigration conceivable for others. Many came to leave behind lives that were harsh and lacking promise. Some came for trade or business opportunities. Some had political reasons for migrating. Some came to escape oppression or lack of freedom in their homelands.

For whatever the reasons they came, people brought possessions with them, to ease their new lives and as mementos of the lives they left behind. Eventually some of these prized possessions were donated to the New Brunswick Museum where they enrich the heritage of this province.
