Gift of Charlotte Maria Arnold Fowler Jones (Sussex, N.B. 9 May 1864-4 February 1939 New York, N.Y.)
In 1913 Charlotte Maria Arnold Fowler Jones presented a number of South African artefacts said to have been collected by her husband Frederick Arthur Jones from Canadian men who served in the South African War. Frederick A. Jones (Saint John, 1840- Saint John, 1912) was the son of the Honourable Thomas Rosenell Jones (1805-1901), businessman and New Brunswick politician. Frederick owned a furniture and carpet store in Saint John and was reputed to have an interest in gold mines in Colorado. A year after his death on 21 November 1912, his wife Charlotte made her donation to the Museum. In addition to the artefacts relating to the South African War, it also includes a number of items from the Middle East and Ancient Egypt, as well as mineral specimens from the American West.
