Percy Rainsford Lee Fairweather

Percy Rainsford Lee Fairweather (Saint John, N.B. 2 September 1874-6 January 1952 Rothesay, N.B.) began his military experience with service in the 62nd Regiment Saint John Fusiliers. On 12 March 1900, he enlisted for service in South Africa. As a private with ‘G’ Company, he took part in the Battle of Paardeburg along with the rest of the Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry. On Christmas day that year, Fairweather was discharged from service in South Africa. Fairweather received the Queen’s South Africa medal (awarded to all troops who served in the South African War) with three clasps for postings in Johannesburg, Cape Colony and Orange Free State.

Returning to his home in Saint John, Fairweather became a member of the South African Veterans’ Association. In 1901 he was commissioned to the 8th Princess Louise Hussars and in 1906 was promoted to Captain.
