Frank Cobham

Frank Cobham (Saint John, N.B. 22 January 1878-23 June 1953 Saint John) applied in March 1901 to serve with the South African Constabulary (SAC), a unit that was in essence a police force used to maintain order in the new British colonies of the Orange Free State and Transvaal. He arrived in South Africa near the end of April and began his service as a 3rd Class Trooper for Division ‘C’ of the SAC. On 22 October 1902, after serving for one year and seven months, he purchased his discharge from the SAC. Back in Saint John, Cobham joined the South African Veterans’ Association and began a career with the Canadian Pacific Railway.
