Unpaid Work
Unpaid Work

Many people work hard at tasks for which there are no wages paid. Most household chores, as well as the taking care of children and elders, do not receive any direct compensation. Traditionally this aspect of work has been divided along lines of gender, with women supplying the majority of labour. Unpaid labour has always been critical to the wellbeing and success of families and society as a whole. On a wider basis, organizations that are run by volunteers aim to provide services or act as a resource for the public or specific groups. Many people view volunteering as a duty and privilege that benefits our community.
