Leptograpium
Conidiophores very dark and stout, bearing a brush-like apical branching structure that is terminated by tapered annellides. The colourless 1-celled spores (conidia) are produced continuously from the tips of the annelides and collect in a large drop of fluid. Phialocephala and Verticicladiella are related genera which differ in having phialides or sympodial conidial production respectively. Species of Thysanophora are similar but have conidiophores with short swollen branches bearing phialides in a manner strongly reminiscent of Penicillium species. On wood and conifer needles. Holomorph: Ophiostoma. Ref: Ellis 1971
