New Brunswick mat hookers have talked for years about the importance of documenting the hooked mats that cover the floors of New Brunswick homes. These are mats made by our grandmothers, mothers and friends to keep their families warm and bring colour into their homes. A network of volunteers from all regions of the province has created a New Brunswick Mat Registry to document these mats and to preserve the stories behind them.

Our Mission

• To capture the stories and culture of the people who produced these mats/articles that enhanced the comfort of the early homes of New Brunswick and continue to add to the fabric of our lives today.

• To develop a database documenting mats/articles hooked in New Brunswick more than 25 years ago with images and individual histories documenting various influences on their creation
