DISCUSSION OF MUTUALISMS BETWEEN FUNGI AND PLANTS

Two phenomena dominate any discussion of plant-fungus mutualisms: mycorrhizae and endophytes. Mycorrhizae are mutualistic associations between plant roots and certain fungi while endophytes are mutualisms occurring in above-ground structures. Both are considered to be of profound ecological significance.
