Rickenella fibula, white form
Rickenella fibula (Bull.) Raithelh., white form
Gregarious on living mosses (Dicranum polysetum), attached to the stems, under Picea rubens and Abies balsamea, Caledonia Gorge PNA, New Brunswick (21-08-12/02).
This collection is very similar to the normal bright orange form of the species but differs in being nearly white. The white form of R. fibula is recognized in the mycological literature and has been formally described under the name Omphalia fibula var. nivalis (Vahl) Rea, although it has never been transferred to Rickenella, which is probably unnecessary.
