Lactarius lignyotus var. canadensis A.H. Smith & Hesler
Gregarious in soil and mosses under Picea rubens, Abies balsamea and Betula papyrifera, Caledonia Gorge Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (20-08-12/02).
Basidiospores 8.0-9.4 X 6.7-8.9 μm, (average = 8.6 X 7.9) D/d=1.04-1.15 (average = 1.09).
Lactarius lignyotus var. canadensis can be distinguished from L. lignyotus var. lignyotus by its brown-marginate lamellae (just visible in the upright fruiting body in the photo).
