Imleria badia
Imleria badia (Fr.) Vizzini
Solitary in soil, forest dominated by Abies balsamea and Betula cordifolia, Campobello Island, New Brunswick (24-09-16/06).
Basidiospores boletoid, 11.2-12.6 X 4.0-4.5 μm, D/d = 2.68-3.04
Most books put this species in the genus Boletus or Xerocomus, but in 2014 (Index Fungorum 147) Alfredo Vizzini made it the type of his new genus Imleria. The soft non-reflective (matte) pileus is due to the thick and very loosly inwoven hyphae of the pileipellis as seen in the photo. The pigmentation is localized in the surface layer
