Picture of Galerina jaapii

Gregarious (2) amongst mosses at the margin of a floating bog, most closely associated with Betula papyrifera and Picea mariana, Spednic Lake Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (21-08-17/01).

Basidiospores light brown in spore print, narrowly ovoid to subfusiform, often with a snout-like apical region and a slight subapical dorsal depression, paler at the immediate apex, very finely roughened, with a well-defined smooth plage, lightly dextrinoid, 8.7-14.0 X 5.0-6.1 µm, D/d = 1.74-2.43 (average[26]: 11.3 X 5.6 µm, D/d = 2.02). Pileipellis a cutis; composed of a subcutis of swollen cells strongly constricted at the septa and an epicutis of narrow, strongly encrusted hyphae.

An elegant little mushroom, both in the field and under the microscope. Recognized by its annulate stipe, large cheilocystidia and long, almost fusiform, basidiospores.
