Entoloma_porphyrophaeum (Fr.) P. Karst.

Picture of Entoloma_ porphyrophaeum

Solitary in soil under beech and sugar maple, Caledonia Gorge Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick.

This collection differs slightly from published accounds of Entoloma porphyrophaeum in having smaller basidiospores and non-moniliform cheilocystidia. It might better be referred to E. jubatum, although it differs from that species in the purplish colours of the pileus as recorded in the field notes. Unfortunately the photograph above does not show this colour at all.
