Entoloma_fernandae (Romagn.) Noordel.

Picture of Entoloma_fernandae

Gregarious amongst pleurozia and polytricha along path, associated with Picea rubens and Abies balsamea, Nepisguit Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick. (19-08-16/05)

This tiny little mushroom is easily overlooked or avoided as just another diffiult Entoloma. It is recognized by its convex, grayish, striate cap. Microscopically it is characterized by the markedly encrusted hyphae of the pileipellis and lack of clamp connections. It is probably fairly common in our area; another collection was made in September 2011 in the Caledonia Gorge Protected Natural Area.
