Four collections are presented here:

  1. Solitary amongst gametophytes of Pleurozium schreiberi and Sphagnum sp., associated with Picea rubens, Abies balsamea and Larix laricina, near McPherson Point Protected Natural Area, Little Lepreau, New Brunswick (09-07-04/02)

  2. Solitary in covered area under tree roots, associated with Picea rubens and Abies balsamea, near McPherson Point Protected Natural Area, Little Lepreau, New Brunswick (09-07-04/03)

  3. Gregarious (2) in woody debris under Populus grandidentata, Grand Lake Meadows Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (16-06-13/02)

  4. Gregarious (2) on Sphagnum gametophytes in forest dominated by Picea rubens, Abies balsamea and Betula papyrifera, Kennedy Lakes Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (04-07-19/03)

Basidiospores pink in spore print, strongly angular, heterodiametrical, 9.3-12.3 X 6.4-8.2 µm Q = 1.28-1.82. Basidia two-spored, occasionally one-spored. Hymenial cystidia probably lacking but some immature basidia are very cystidium-like. Pileipellis a thin cutis above a subcutis of short broad hyphae. Pigments probably intracellular but difficult to observe, not conspicuously encrusting.

This inconspicuous species is often found early in the season. Its fragile little basidiomata frequently occur alone in hidden places and may easily be overlooked. Its early appearance, small size, conspicuously strigose stipe (when fresh) and striate pileus are diagnostic. The two-spored basidia are conspiculous in microscopic mounts.
