Crepidotus fusisporus
Crepidotus fusisporus Hesler & A.H. Smith
1. Gregarious on a fallen branch of Alnus incana, in annually flooded area by the St. John River, Grand Lake Meadows Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (16-08-14/06).
2. On rotting branch (many) of Acer saccharum in forest of Acer saccharum, Betula papyrifera and Fagus grandifolia, Kennedy Lakes Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (07-07-19/05).
Basidiospores not seen in spore print but appearing pinkish brown on the lamellae and very pale brown under the microscope, fusoid, finely roughened, 6.4-8.8 X 3.6-4.9 µm, Q = 1.70-2.16 (average[22]: 7.7 X 4.0 µm, Q = 1.92). Cheilocystidia forming a continuous sterile margin, irregularly lobed to clavate, clamped at the base. Pileipellis a thin dense cutis of clamped hyphae. Tomentum of pileus produced near the margin and where contacting the substrate, irregularly wavy, clamped at the septa.
Characterized by its pure white fruting bodies and fusoid basidiospores. Since many species of Crepidotus have white fruiting bodies it is essential to confirm any identification with microscopic details.
