Clavulinopsis fusiformis (Sowerby) Corner

Clustered (many) in soil in a mature hardwood forest, associated with Cornus cornuta and Abies balsamea, Hell’s Gate Hardwoods Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (14-09-19/05).

Basidiospores white in spore print, subglobose to very broadly ellipsoidal, smooth, inamyloid, 4.8-6.8 X 4.3-5.5 µm, Q = 1.03-1.27 (average[23]: 5.6 X 4.9 µm, Q = 1.13). Basidia narrowly clavate, 4-spored, with a clamp connection on the basal septum.

An easily recognized species, characterized by its bright yellow clustered basidiomata and nearly spherical inamyloid basidiospores.
