Picture of Clavulina_reae

Gregarious in soil and litter under Salix sp. in open grassy area, in annually flooded area by the St. John River, Grand Lake Meadows Protected Natural Area, New Brunswick (19-08-14/02).

Basidiospores broadly ellipsoidal to subglobose, smooth, inamyloid, 7.3-9.8 X 5.5-8.3 μm, D/d = 1.11-1.45. Basidia 2-spored.

Clavulina reae was described in 1917 by the British mycologist Carleton Rea as C. cinerea var. gracilis. In 2012, I. Olariaga raised Rea's variety to the species level and named it C. reae. It closely resembles C. cinerea but differs in its long stipe, more open and delicate branching and overall smaller size.
