Rowland Cardwell Frazee was born on 12 May, 1921, Halifax, Nova Scotia, son of Rowland Hill Frazee and Callie Jean Cardwell. He married Marie Eileen Tait on June 11, 1949 in Marysville, York Co., New Brunswick. They had 2 children, Stephen and Catherine. He became a junior clerk in 1939 at the St. Stephen, New Brunswick Royal Bank of Canada branch, where his father was branch manager from 1926-1945. Rowland enlisted in 1940 and served with the 2nd Battalion of Carleton & York Regiment, beginning active service in World War II with the 1st Battalion, in 1941. He was promoted to rank of Major and took command of "D" Company in May 1945 and retired in 1945. After the war, Roland Frazee earned a Bachelor Degree in Commerce in 1948 from Dalhousie University, NS. He was hired by the Royal Bank of Canada in Fredericton and later became president of the Royal Bank of Canada in 1977, Chief Executive Officer in 1979 and served as Chairman from 1980 until 1986. Rowland C. Frazee has been awarded numerous recognitions including the Companion of the Order of Canada 1991, an Honourary Degree (Doctor of Laws) from York University 1984, and inducted into the New Brunswick Hall of Fame, 2001.| |
