| Little is known about these cherubs.
When they were acquired in 1970, they were said to have been found recently in Bathurst,
New Brunswick, but were made in Québec about 1750. In the latter case, they are examples of the early wood
sculpture of New France. The sculptures were originally painted and probably enhanced the top of a church reredos. |
